The Blue Haven Foundation started 2026 with purpose and momentum, launching its first Essay Writing Contest and Skills Challenge from January 26 through February 23. The goal was simple and powerful. Create space for young women to think boldly, write confidently, and step into leadership early.

This inaugural program invited high school girls from across the Los Angeles area to explore big ideas through writing. Participants selected from four themes designed to spark reflection and real-world connection. Topics ranged from leadership and sisterhood to community impact and personal ambition. Each essay, between 500 and 1,000 words, became a platform for voice, perspective, and vision. The reward was a $300 gift card, but the real value was in the process. Students sharpened research skills, strengthened critical thinking, and built confidence in their ability to communicate with purpose.

Submissions rolled in with depth, honesty, and creativity, making the judging process both exciting and challenging. It was clear that these young women are already thinking like leaders and using their voices in meaningful ways.

To extend the reach, BHF partnered with educators across the LA area, offering a $100 gift card incentive to the teacher who encouraged the most student submissions. This added layer of engagement helped bring even more talented writers into the fold and reinforced the importance of mentorship in student success.

We were thrilled to announce Christiana Ravenell as the winner of the first Essay Writing Contest and Skills Challenge. A senior at Middle College High School in Los Angeles, Christiana stood out with a compelling and heartfelt essay on the Power of Serving One’s Community to Create Change. Her writing captured both insight and intention, reflecting a deep understanding of service and its impact.

This program marks an exciting new chapter for BHF as it continues to invest in the next generation of female leaders. If this first year is any indication, the future is bright, driven by young voices ready to lead, inspire, and create change.
