Education isn’t just about books—it’s about health too. On October 25, Blue Haven Foundation (BHF) joined forces with Black Women for Wellness (BW4W), Watts Healthcare, Sure One Insurance Services (L.A. Care), and the California Health Collaborative for Mammograms & Manicures, a free community event focused on promoting breast health awareness and access to care.
Held at McCarty Memorial Christian Church in Los Angeles’ historic West Adams district, the event welcomed women from across the community for a day dedicated to self-care and preventive health. Nearly 50 women registered to receive no-cost mammograms, with additional resources available to encourage early detection—the strongest defense against breast cancer.
Guests were treated to free manicures, a small but meaningful way to help attendees relax while engaging in important conversations about wellness. Breakfast and lunch, generously provided by BW4W, added to the sense of community and care that filled the day.
BHF distributed educational materials—including bilingual shower cards, pamphlets from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., and QR-coded info sheets linking directly to BlueHavenLA.org—to help women continue learning and taking action long after the event ended.
At its heart, Mammograms & Manicures embodied what BHF stands for: empowering communities through education, access, and compassion. Because when we invest in women’s health, we strengthen families, neighborhoods, and futures.
Early detection saves lives—because wellness matters as much as education.
